Moravian communities driven out before revocation obtained through the intercession of the powers

The expulsion decreed by Maria Theresa also struck Moravia, whose communities were likewise driven out before the revocation obtained through the intercession of foreign powers came to annul it.

What this intercession reveals is new: it was neither religious arguments nor charity that swayed the sovereign, but foreign chancelleries and commercial considerations. The fate of communities began to depend on a European diplomatic game — a distant prefiguration of the consular interventions of the following century in the East.
