The auto-da-fé known as the Cristo de la Paciencia was held in Madrid: Judaizers were condemned to the stake, the house where the cult was said to have been profaned was razed and a convent built in its place.
The accusation was that of the desecration of a crucifix, reviving the host affairs of the Middle Ages. The accused were Portuguese New Christians who had come to Castile after the union of the two crowns; the court attended the ceremony, and the affair was celebrated in verse by the poets of the time.
