first autos-da-fé of converts

The tribunal of the Inquisition established itself in Catalonia and held its first autos-da-fé in Barcelone against converts.

The city had resisted the establishment of the tribunal, as had the other cities of the crown of Aragon, which saw in it an infringement of their privileges; the governor of the tribunal in Aragon had moreover been assassinated in Saragosse in its cathedral, some years earlier, by desperate converts. The resistance yielded, and Catalonia had its tribunal like the rest of the country.
