The Inquisition tribunal established at Ciudad Real held its first autos-da-fé against converts accused of Judaizing.
The tribunal, created four years earlier by the Catholic Monarchs with the pope's approval, did not judge Jews, over whom it had no authority, but baptized persons suspected of maintaining Jewish practices; its proceedings are for this reason the principal source we have on the religious life of converts. The tribunal was transferred to Toledo the following year.
