L'affaire de Trente, l'année précédente, avait fourni le modèle et les mots. À Ratisbonne, un converti nommé Wolfgang déclara avoir assisté à l'égorgement d'enfants dans une cave de la Judenstadt ; dix-sept notables furent arrêtés, enchaînés et soumis à la question. Aucun enfant disparu ne fut jamais identifié.

Ce qui distingue Ratisbonne est la suite : l'empereur Frédéric III, protecteur en titre des Juifs d'Empire et créancier de leurs contributions, interdit au conseil de la ville de poursuivre, fit lever la procédure et exigea la libération des détenus. Ceux-ci restèrent pourtant enfermés plusieurs années, le conseil négociant leur sort contre une amende, avant d'être relâchés sans jugement.

La communauté, l'une des plus anciennes d'Allemagne, survécut à l'affaire ; elle fut expulsée une génération plus tard, au lendemain de la mort de l'empereur Maximilien, et la synagogue rasée.
