L'accusation de profanation d'hostie est la forme germanique de l'accusation de meurtre rituel : elle suppose que le Juif, pour éprouver la présence réelle, transperce la matière consacrée, qui saigne. Elle vise donc moins un crime qu'une croyance, et elle laisse toujours la même trace — un lieu de pèlerinage là où le sang a coulé.

À Passau, un voleur arrêté déclara avoir vendu des hosties à des Juifs de la ville. Quatre furent exécutés après avoir avoué sous la torture, d'autres baptisés de force, le reste chassé. La communauté cessa d'exister.

Sur l'emplacement de la synagogue, la ville éleva une église de pèlerinage, Sankt Salvator, dont la construction fut financée par les offrandes des pèlerins venus vénérer le miracle. C'est le dispositif complet : l'accusation détruit la communauté, la destruction devient un sanctuaire, et le sanctuaire entretient l'accusation.
