The community of Passau, at the confluence of the Danube and the Inn, was destroyed during the Black Death.
A century and a half later, the city was the scene of an accusation of host desecration that served as a model for all of southern Germany and whose iconography spread through engravings: Passau thus appears twice in the history of persecutions, once through plague and once through the host.
