Riots broke out in Old Castile against the converts, and Valladolid was among the cities affected.
The converts of thirteen ninety-one and their descendants formed in the Castilian cities a numerous group, having entered offices, chapters, and trades closed to Jews; it was against them, not against the Jews who had remained Jewish, that these riots were directed, and it was from them that the statutes of blood purity would emerge, and, ten years later, the tribunal of the Inquisition.
