The council convened at Bâle renewed against the Jews the decrees of separation: the wearing of the badge, the prohibition of university degrees, the obligation to attend conversion sermons.
The council went further than those that had preceded it: it charged bishops with having Jews preached to several times a year and with compelling them to attend, and it forbade them from holding any public or professional office. These decisions were taken up by the princes of the Empire and of Italy, and served throughout the century as support for the preachers who demanded expulsions.
