The community of Diessenhofen, on the Rhine, was burned following a trial for well-poisoning.
It was there that, in the early days of the affair, one of the investigations was opened whose extracted confessions subsequently served as justification throughout all of southern Germany: the small Thurgau market town holds a place in this history entirely out of proportion with its size.
