the community destroyed
The community of Lenzbourg was destroyed during the Black Death.
The Aargau town appears in the lists of Swiss communities annihilated; the Jews of the region then withdrew toward Alsace and Swabia, when they were able to do so.
The town was at that time under Habsburg rule, and its bailiff was required to account for the property of the dead before the duke; the trials in western Switzerland, where confessions of well-poisoning were extracted, had preceded the wave by several months and served as its pretext.
