The community of Stein an der Donau was destroyed during the Wiener Gesera.
The town was bound up with Krems, on the other bank of the river branch, and the two communities lived together; they were swept away together.
The two towns together formed the region's river port, and the wine of the Wachau was loaded there for Vienna and Bohemia; Jewish lenders financed the harvest, and their disappearance can be read in the account books of the merchants of the following generation.
