À Burgos, la juiverie fut attaquée et une grande partie de la communauté baptisée.

C'est là que se produisit le cas le plus retentissant : le rabbin de la ville, Salomon ha-Levi, se convertit, prit le nom de Pablo de Santa María, devint évêque de Burgos et chancelier de Castille, et écrivit contre le judaïsme. Ses descendants furent de grands personnages du royaume. La conversion n'était donc pas seulement une soumission : elle ouvrait, pour quelques-uns, une carrière que la loi interdisait aux Juifs.
