The Jewish community of Lisbonne was attacked during a riot.
Portugal had been spared by the Spanish wave of thirteen ninety-one, which followed shortly after, and its judaria of Lisbonne, the largest in the kingdom, remained in place until the forced conversion of fourteen ninety-six. Riots of this kind there were isolated outbursts, not the beginning of a destruction.
