The community of Ribeauvillé was destroyed during the Black Death.
The lordship of Ribeaupierre subsequently recalled Jews and granted them letters of protection: Alsatian Judaism was thus reconstituted, not in the free cities but in the seigneurial towns, where the lord found his revenue.
