the towns of Alsace and the bishop of Strasbourg decide the fate of Jewish communities; only Strasbourg opposes it at first, before the massacre of 14 February

In Benfeld, in Alsace, the delegates of the cities and the bishop of Strasbourg decided in assembly the fate of the Jewish communities of the region; only the city of Strasbourg initially opposed this, before its council was overthrown and its Jewish community burned a few days later.

The assembly was held while the plague had not yet reached most of these cities: the massacre was therefore decided in advance, in a meeting, and not committed in the panic of an epidemic. This is what makes Benfeld one of the most damning documents of that year.
