Jews arrested and burned
In Bourges, Jews were arrested and burned in the context of the lepers' affair. The city was one of the seats of royal administration in Berry, and the prosecutions were conducted there by the king's officers.
This is the second feature of this affair: it was not the work of a crowd but of a judicial machine. Bailiffs investigated, judges condemned, clerks recorded. The Pastoureaux, the year before, had killed without trial; here the State killed with all due form, and the result was the same.
