the community attacked
The community of Monclús, in the Aragonese Sobrarbe, was attacked by the Pastoureaux who had entered Spain. The place, a small stronghold in upper Aragon, lay along one of the roads coming from Béarn.
The Aragonese authorities subsequently pursued those who had taken part in the pillaging, including local people who had joined the bands: the royal registers preserve records of the inquiries and restitutions ordered. This is the difference between a kingdom where the Jew belongs to the king and one where he belongs to the city.
