The community of Sully-sur-Loire was massacred by Crusaders of the Second Crusade on their way to the East. The fact is recorded by Ephraïm de Bonn in the collection in which he set down the persecutions of those years.
The French violence of this Crusade was less widespread than that of the Rhineland half a century earlier, because Louis VII and the bishops intervened more quickly; it was nonetheless enough to ruin several small communities of the Loire and Champagne regions, and to make the preaching of a crusade a signal that Jews learned to be wary of.
