Fondé à Moscou en 1917, Habima fut le premier grand théâtre professionnel jouant en hébreu, célèbre pour sa mise en scène du Dibbouk de An-ski sous la direction de Vakhtangov. La troupe s'installa en Palestine et devint le théâtre national d'Israël. Son histoire incarne la renaissance de l'hébreu comme langue de scène.
