Main city of Vojvodina, Subotica (Szabadka in Hungarian) hosted a flourishing Jewish community in the 18th–20th centuries, uniting Sephardic and Ashkenazi Jews. The great Art Nouveau synagogue built in 1902 by architects Komor and Jakab, one of the most remarkable in Europe, testifies to the prosperity of this community.
