Innsbruck, capital of Tyrol, experienced a medieval Jewish presence in the 14th–15th centuries under the Habsburgs, before systematic expulsions from the region. A modern community was constituted in the 19th century through Austrian emancipation, erected into an official congregation in 1867; it was nearly destroyed under Nazism.
