Franco-Lithuanian philosopher, one of the greatest thinkers of the 20th century. His work (Totality and Infinity, Otherwise than Being) places ethics and responsibility towards the other at the foundation of philosophy. His Talmudic Lectures renew the dialogue between Western philosophy and Jewish thought.
