Né d'une famille juive ashkénaze germano-polonaise réfugiée en France ; son père Erich Cohn-Bendit était avocat berlinois (défenseur de la Rote Hilfe), sa mère Herta également juriste. Figure de mai 68, il fut ensuite eurodéputé écologiste. Auteur de plusieurs livres.
