Ville d'Anatolie du Nord au bord de l'Iris (Yeşilırmak), Amasya fut une cité ottomane importante où une communauté juive est mentionnée dans les registres fiscaux (defterleri) dès le XVe siècle. Les Juifs y exerçaient principalement le commerce des textiles et l'artisanat.
