Knife assault on an Orthodox Jew in the street
2 mars 2024·Zurich
The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.
A teenager stabs an Orthodox Jew on a street in Zurich, in the neighborhood where the community resides, gravely wounding him. The attacker, who had recorded a pledge of allegiance to a jihadist organization, is arrested shortly afterward.
Switzerland had not seen an attack of this kind for decades: the Zurich community, the largest in the country, is made up of families settled there since the nineteenth century and of refugees taken in before and after the war. The attack, carried out in broad daylight against a person identifiable by his attire, led cantonal authorities to strengthen the protection of Jewish neighborhoods and schools, and it reignited the Swiss debate on the radicalization of minors.
