The Ammunition Hill tram station serves a neighborhood in Jerusalem built on the site of a battle during the Six-Day War. A driver deliberately rams his vehicle into passengers who have stepped onto the platform.
Among the victims is an infant of a few months, killed in the arms of his parents who were returning from the maternity ward — an image that spread across the entire country. The attack opens a sequence of several months during which isolated assailants, without any organizational backing, use vehicles and knives in Jerusalem — a form of action that neither intelligence services nor barriers can anticipate, and which targets tram stations because they gather a crowd in the open.
