Assassination of the Fogel family (Itamar)
11 mars 2011·Itamar (famille Fogel)
The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.
Itamar is an Israeli settlement established on the heights south of Nablus, in Samaria. During the night of March 11 to 12, 2011, two young men from the neighboring village of Awarta broke into the Fogel family home and slit the throats of the father, the mother, and three of their children, including an infant of a few months; the eldest daughter, returning home later that evening, discovered the scene. The extreme cruelty of the crime, committed with bladed weapons against sleeping children, provoked considerable shock in Israel and beyond. The two perpetrators, arrested several weeks later, claimed a nationalist motive. The Israeli government responded by authorizing new construction in the settlements, which the international community condemned.
