Attack on the Mercaz HaRav yeshiva (Jerusalem)
6 mars 2008·Jérusalem, yeshiva Mercaz HaRav
The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.
Mercaz HaRav, founded by Rabbi Abraham Isaac Kook, is the founding yeshiva of religious Zionism: the leaders of the settlement movement almost all studied there. On the evening of March 6, 2008, a resident of Jérusalem-Est employed as a driver at the neighboring institution entered the library, where students were studying on the eve of Roch Hodech, and opened fire with an assault rifle. Most of the dead were teenagers. The attack struck an institution that embodies, in the eyes of its opponents as well as its faithful, the ideological heart of the settlement enterprise; it occurred a few days after an Israeli operation in Gaza. Hamas welcomed it without formally claiming responsibility.
