Attack — Jerusalem, bus 26
21 août 1995·Jérusalem, bus 26
The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.
The bus line serving the northern neighborhoods of Jerusalem carries residents heading to the city center, schoolchildren, and soldiers every morning.
A man boards during rush hour and detonates the charge he was carrying. Passengers are killed and more than a hundred wounded; the vehicle is torn apart. The street is closed for several hours, and residents of the neighborhood take part in the recovery of the bodies according to custom.
This attack is part of the campaign waged in the autumn against Israeli urban buses. It comes just a few weeks before the assassination of the Israeli prime minister, in a climate of internal tension that these attacks had done much to fuel.
