Bomb aboard Swissair flight 330 bound for Tel-Aviv, the aircraft crashes after takeoff

The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.

A Swissair flight departs Zurich bound for Tel-Aviv carrying passengers of several nationalities, including an Israeli delegation. A charge concealed in the hold, fitted with a barometric trigger, explodes shortly after takeoff.

The crew attempts to return to Zurich, but smoke fills the cockpit and the aircraft crashes near Würenlingen. There are no survivors. On the same day, a charge of the same type explodes aboard an Austrian aircraft, which manages to land.

The attack is claimed and then disavowed; it opens the era of barometric bombs placed in air freight and leads to the generalization of baggage screening on international flights.
