The community of Karditsa, in Thessaly, was arrested during the operation carried out on the same day in several towns across the center of the country. Some families had managed to reach the zones held by the resistance in the nearby mountains, where villages took them in. Those who were caught in Karditsa passed through transit camps before being transported to central Europe. The town had a small community, long established there and closely intertwined with local life.
