Former ecclesiastical capital on the Danube, Esztergom sees its Jews gathered in a closed quarter and then in a camp on the outskirts, before the convoys of early summer.

Esztergom, seat of the Primate of Hungary on the Danube, had a long-established community in a suburb of the lower town, with its synagogue, school, and workshops. Following the German occupation of Hungary, the Jews of the town and county were confined to a ghetto, then gathered into the camps of the region. The convoys departed in early summer toward the extermination center in Upper Silesia; the community of Esztergom did not recover.
