A mining town in Northern Transylvania, Baia Mare sees its community gathered in a brickyard and in a closed quarter of the center, before being taken by convoys to the death camp.
Nagybánya (Baia Mare), a mining town at the foot of the Carpathians, was home to a community that lived from trade, crafts, and occupations connected to the region's gold and silver mines. It had its synagogue, its school, and its mutual aid societies. Following the German occupation of Hungary, the Jews of the town and the surrounding district villages were confined to a ghetto established in a brickworks on the outskirts. The convoys departed in early summer bound for the extermination center in Upper Silesia; the community was destroyed.
