Town in the Dniestr valley, Żydaczów sees its community confined to a closed quarter, decimated by hunger and disease, then emptied by successive convoys.

Żydaczów, a town in the Dniestr valley and seat of a renowned Hassidic court, was home to an ancient community whose houses of study drew the faithful from across the region. Under occupation, it was stripped by repeated levies, its men sent to forced labor, its places of worship desecrated. The Jews of the town were then herded into an enclosure and taken to the neighboring city, from which convoys departed for the death camp; the last were shot on the spot.
