The Shoah (1939–1945)

Deportation of Sniatyn

avril 1942·Sniatyn

Toll
plusieurs milliers de déportés

The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.

The Jews of the small town on the Prut are assembled in the square, the sick and elderly shot on the spot, and the others driven into wagons bound for a death center in the Lublin region.

In Sniatyn, on the same river, the community is struck in the spring by a roundup operation followed by on-site executions and convoys to a death center in the province of Lublin. The sick and the elderly are shot in the streets. The enclosed quarter kept for several more months for the workers is emptied before the end of the year, and the city is declared free of Jews.
