The Shoah (1939–1945)

Liquidation of the Siedlce ghetto

Août 1942·Siedlce

Toll
~10 000

The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.

The ghetto is emptied towards Treblinka after a gathering of several days in a meadow.

Siedlce, east of Varsovie, had a closed quarter populated by its own inhabitants and those expelled from neighboring towns. It was surrounded at the end of summer and the population was gathered in a meadow at the edge of the city.

The wait lasted several days, without shelter or water, before the convoys departed for Treblinka. Those who could no longer walk were shot on the meadow itself. A small enclave was maintained for a few more weeks in the quarter, then liquidated in turn.
