Toll
~26

The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.

the city shelled by artillery by the garrison, Jewish houses set on fire and inhabitants shot

From the eighth to the tenth of September, the garrison bombarded Siedlce with artillery. Jewish homes were set ablaze and inhabitants shot in the streets.

The scale of the means deployed — field guns turned against a town in Russian Poland — falls outside the ordinary repertoire of the pogrom. This was a military operation conducted against a civilian population under the pretext of revolutionary unrest. The episode foreshadows what the Russian Civil War would become a decade later, when regular armies would treat Jewish townlets as military objectives.
