The Shoah (1939–1945)
Liquidation of the Rzeszów ghetto
Juill. 1942·Rzeszów
The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.
The ghetto is emptied in three convoys to Bełżec, with shootings in the Głogów forest.
Rzeszów, in western Galicia, was home to an ancient Jewish community and one of the most densely populated enclosed quarters in the region, swelled by those expelled from surrounding towns.
It was emptied in midsummer by three successive convoys to Bełżec. The shootings that preceded and accompanied them took place in the Głogów forest, on the outskirts of the city. A small labor camp subsequently remained, connected to the Wehrmacht workshops.
