The Shoah (1939–1945)
Ghetto of Kopaïhorod
hiver 1942·Kopaihorod
The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.
Town on the left bank of the Dniestr transformed into a place of crowding, Kopaïhorod receives convoys of deportees abandoned in stables and attics; typhus carries away entire families.
Kopaihorod, in Podolia, houses an enclosed quarter where the Jews of the town and those left behind by columns of deportees are confined. The sick die by the hundreds during the winter, and periodic raids take groups away to the pits dug open in the surrounding area.
