The Jews of the city are gathered then shot by a Sonderkommando of Einsatzgruppe C backed by auxiliary police.

On the twenty-first and twenty-second days of September, the Jews of Uman are gathered and then shot by a Sonderkommando of Einsatzgruppe C supported by the auxiliary police.

Uman had been seized by the Haidamaks in the century of the Enlightenment, massacred during the Koliivshchyna, struck again during the civil war. The tomb of Rabbi Nahman of Bratslav, the destination of an annual pilgrimage, stands in the middle of what was once the Jewish town — and it is around it that today's community reconstitutes itself each autumn, for the duration of the festival.
