On the banks of the Pripyat, the community of the town is shot down in waves over the course of autumn and winter; a few families, warned in time, had managed to flee eastward with Soviet administrations.
Mazyr, on the Prypiat, was home to an ancient community, part of which had managed to flee eastward as the armies approached. Those who remained were confined to a ghetto in the autumn, then taken in groups outside the city and shot at the edge of pits; some set fire to their homes rather than leave them. The community of Mazyr was annihilated before the end of the year.
