The Shoah (1939–1945)

Shootings of Bobrouïsk

Oct.-nov. 1941·Bobrouïsk

Toll
~7 000

The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.

Jews of the city and neighboring towns are shot in the pits on the periphery.

Bobrouïsk, on the Bérézina, was seized in the first weeks of the invasion. Jews who had not had time to flee eastward were counted, marked, then gathered in an enclosed quarter of the city, while inhabitants of the surrounding towns were brought in by convoys.

The executions took place in the autumn, in pits dug on the outskirts, over the course of several days. The city also housed a camp for Soviet prisoners of war, from which Jewish soldiers were separated and handed over to the same units.
