A camp is opened on the Ettersberg, above Weimar; it receives thousands of German Jews arrested in raids from the following autumn onwards.

The Buchenwald camp is opened on the wooded heights overlooking Weimar. It quickly becomes one of the largest camps on German territory, with a network of labor detachments scattered throughout the region. A particular section there is assigned to Jewish detainees, subject to a distinct regime; their numbers increase sharply in the autumn of Kristallnacht.
