the Jewish town on the Dnieper plundered by bands of insurgents
Loïev, a small town on the Dniepr at the confluence of the Soj, in Belarusian Polesie, lived off the river and the crossing. Its Jewish population fell victim to the bands of insurgents who held the region at the end of the civil war. Houses were looted, inhabitants beaten and stripped of their belongings. The town, which armies crossed to ford the river, was struck with each passage.
