judaizers condemned, several delivered to the stake

An auto-da-fé was celebrated in Séville on the thirteenth of April: judaizers were condemned there, and several delivered to the stake.

It is one of the great auto-da-fés of the century, held before the assembled city. The condemned were Portuguese New Christians established in Andalusia for the trade of the Indies; their trials are the last great cycle of prosecutions by the Spanish Inquisition against judaizers, before it turned toward other offenses.
