the community driven out
The community of Pérouse was expelled pursuant to the bull *Hebraeorum gens*.
The city had already expelled its Jews nearly a century earlier, following the preaching of the Observants, then had allowed them to return; this time the measure came from the Pope and applied to the entire State. Those expelled from Umbria and the Marches moved to Rome and Ancona, the only two cities where residence remained permitted, which correspondingly swelled the population of the Roman ghetto.
