Tyrnau, ville royale libre de Haute-Hongrie, comptait une communauté ancienne, installée depuis le XIIIᵉ siècle et vivant du prêt et du commerce. Sur l'accusation d'avoir tué un enfant chrétien pour son sang, une douzaine d'hommes et de femmes furent arrêtés, torturés et brûlés sur le bûcher.

Les aveux ont la forme habituelle du genre : ils décrivent un rite que la halakha interdit — l'usage du sang étant l'un des interdits alimentaires les plus stricts —, et ils sont recueillis par des juges qui en connaissent le scénario par les affaires antérieures d'Empire.

Les Juifs furent chassés de Tyrnau dans la foulée, et la ville obtint le privilège de ne plus en admettre — un privilège que réclamèrent après elle la plupart des villes royales de Hongrie, et qui ne tomba qu'au XVIIIᵉ siècle.
