A charge of ritual murder was brought against the community of Sepúlveda, in Castile. The proceedings were conducted by the Bishop of Segovia, Juan Arias Dávila, himself a grandson of converts — a detail his enemies would later recall against him before the Inquisition.
The accused were taken to Segovia, tried, and executed; the remainder of the Sepúlveda community was attacked by the population and dispersed.
The affair circulated in the chronicles and served as an example for decades. It belongs to the series of accusations that, in Castile, preceded by a short time the establishment of the Holy Office and the preparation of the expulsion.
