The community of Neuss was destroyed during the Black Death.

The city had welcomed, a century and a half earlier, Jews from Cologne whom the archbishop had sent there to shelter them from the Crusaders; they had been massacred there. Neuss thus suffered two destructions of its Jewish community within two and a half centuries.
